BLS reconstruction of Zweisimmen railroad station - bridge over Lenkstrasse

As part of the "TransGoldenPass" project of the Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahnen (MOB), a transfer-free connection on the Montreux - Spiez line was created at the Zweisimmen station by constructing a gauge change facility.

Project description

As part of the "TransGoldenPass" project of the Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahnen (MOB), a transfer-free connection between Montreux and Spiez is to be created at the Zweisimmen station by constructing a gauge change facility. The expansion of the station facilities in Zweisimmen required for this also necessitates, among other things, a widening of the southern station access via Lenkstrasse due to the additional standard gauge connection of the MOB-Perrons. For this purpose, the east side of the two existing railroad bridges over Lenkstrasse as well as the existing retaining walls "Gemse" and "Technikräume" have to be replaced.

Special features

A major challenge of this construction site was the logistics. Due to the tight space conditions, the only access in the area of the "Gemse" retaining wall was via the existing east bridge. The logistics were therefore carried out via the track that was shut down during the construction phase. After completion of the "Gemse" retaining wall work, the abutment widening and dismantling of the east bridge could be started. At the same time, the "retaining wall technical rooms" with integrated technical room was constructed.

Main work carried out

  • Dismantling of the railroad line excl. tracks
  • Extensive excavation work
  • New retaining wall "chamois" on micropile foundation
  • Widening of abutment walls
  • Demolition and new construction of the east bridge
  • New construction of retaining wall "technical rooms
  • Extensive work line construction
  • Pavement works

Special features of the bridge demolition

  • Edge area of the bridge is only 75 cm next to the railroad facilities in operation incl. the main power line of the railroad 5m above the bridge.
  • The cantonal road below the bridge was always in operation, a complete closure was not possible.
  • In the abutment space of the bridge there is an operating transformer of BKW with 16'000 volts.
  • During construction, the bridge was connected to the neighboring bridge by means of tie rods. In addition, the entire abutment area was filled with epoxy resin.
