Landfill Construction and Site Remediation

WALO has played a pioneering role in the field of bituminous asphalt seals for over 45 years with its various services in Switzerland and worldwide. Apart from sealing reservoirs, canals and dams, landfills are also part of our specialist department’s range of services.

A contaminated site is a definable part of the earth's surface that shows changes in the soil and/or groundwater that are harmful to health or the environment due to pollution, for example as a result of landfills. These areas must be reconstructed. In Switzerland, there is an obligation to remediate contaminated sites.

We take our claim "Buildings for generations" very seriously. At WALO, we believe that the legacy of our sites should not be a problem for the next generation. WALO accepts responsibility for this task and applies the correct and relevant procedure.

In landfills in particular, it is absolutely essential that the sealing layer is impermeable to liquids. In addition to water, landfills also contain liquids or dissolved materials that are environmentally harmful and could pollute the groundwater. The bituminous seals from WALO are impervious, durable and suitable for particularly polluted materials. Consequently, no further measures are needed to protect the bituminous sealing layer. In addition, they are extremely resistant to ageing and flexibly absorb settlements and deformations of the subsurface.
