Athletics track, Bellinzona

The athletics track in Bellinzona is a place for sporting activity, competition and personal development. It is a unique ensemble where training, performance, progress and community are linked. Today, the track in Bellinzona is not only used by local athletes, but also as a venue for international sporting events.

Case Study Description

The renovation of the athletics track in Bellinzona was necessary because the old track no longer met the requirements for international competitions. The renovation was of enormous importance not only for the athletes, but also for the city of Bellinzona, which has established itself as a venue for various national and international events.

For international competitions, an athletics track has to fulfil certain criteria. The track had to be extended by two lanes on the straight in order to have a total of eight lanes for the 110m track, while six lanes are sufficient for the other tracks.

The material used for the renovation was RUB TAN®, a high-quality material specially developed for running tracks. It offers an optimal surface structure that provides athletes with a better grip and thus a higher performance. In addition, RUB TAN® is an environmentally friendly material, it consists of a PU-bonded, patented cork-rubber granulate that has been proven to cushion the impact of a fall.

The renovation and expansion of the athletics track in Bellinzona has not only improved the quality of the facility, but also increased the city's attractiveness as a venue for international competitions. This will help to ensure that Bellinzona continues to be considered as a host for important sporting events in the future.

Special Features

The reconstruction work of the athletics track was subject to special challenges. One main task was to level out unevenness in the floor to ensure optimal running conditions. In addition, tight deadlines had to be met to ensure that the track was ready in time for upcoming events. Despite the challenges, the team managed to complete the track on time and to the highest standards.
