New construction MFH Walo Limmatstrasse 73 Zurich

The former WALO company headquarters from the 1950s was replaced by a townhouse with 27 apartments. The sculptural structure contains different floor plan typologies for today's urban dweller.

Project description

The old headquarters of Walo Bertschinger AG has given way to a high-quality new building. The facade - consisting of parapet bands in polished colored cast stone, windows with anodized frames and bay windows across the corner - gives the strong building volume an elegant and light detailing.

The new inner-city building was allowed to be built right up to the parcel boundary, posing logistical challenges to the construction process. Nevertheless, the shell was erected in record time - around six weeks ahead of schedule. Thanks to the excellent cooperation between planners and contractors, we can look back on a high-quality building that satisfied every party involved in the construction.

Special features

The already finished facade parapet strips were moved with millimeter precision during the shell construction and connected with the concrete ceilings in a force-fit manner. The anodized windows were directly connected to the parapet, so there were almost no tolerances. However, this was mastered flawlessly by the foreman carrying out the work.
