Overview

Y-Parc in Yverdon-les-Bains

The Y-Parc in Yverdon-les-Bains is a public space for leisure activities, discovery and scientific games. Above all, it is a successful mix combining promotion, development, innovation and solutions beyond all else. Today, a new training centre for professions in the automotive industry is being built on the Y-Parc site.

The project

The Y-Parc in Yverdon-les-Bains is ideally located for the construction of a new education centre. It has motorway access to the south of the city, offers sufficient parking facilities and is connected to the railway station and the city centre. The current premises of the Vaud section of the management team of the Swiss Automobile Association (AGVS) training centre on Avenue des Sports are too cramped. By moving to Y-Parc, the association has the opportunity to create a training venue that is considered a reference for automotive professions at cantonal and national level.

In detail

Today, around 1500 apprentices complete vocational training in the canton of Vaud each year. They will be housed in the new premises from August 2023.

The new building, supported by more than 150 deep piles, has a rectangular shape with a recess in the centre and comprises two buildings on a site of about 8000 m2 : an administrative area with a total surface area of 4000 m2 on five levels with a height of 3.00 m and a second, U-shaped industrial area. The latter will house the mechanical workshops and training rooms on an area of 6000 m2 divided into 4 floors. The ceiling height is higher, between 4.00 m and 7.0 0 m, to be able to install motorbike and car lifts. There is also an area for trucks. In the centre of the building there is a grassed terrace, above which there is a covered car park of about 700 m2 where the cars for the mechanics courses are parked.

Main constraints

  • Short timetable

  • Foundations on piles

  • Inventory in reduced formwork

  • High walls
