The new park on the Butzenbüel will be complemented by various park themes that offer visitors a range of different experiences. The first construction phase comprises the development of the service roads to the sky platform. This platform is supported by a large technical room under the platform for the water feature. The concrete surface of the platform is divided into two circular areas with different surface structures.
In addition, a three metre wide concrete road and chossed natural roads made of marl will be created. The accompanying gravel banquettes with regularly arranged lighting line the roads and connect the most important core elements of the park. This harmonious integration into the landscape creates a pleasant ambience for visitors.
Access to the hill is facilitated by two wooden spiral staircases and three staircases for the moving walkways, which are skilfully integrated into the steep terrain. In a second phase of construction, a turning chamber will be integrated into the slope at the northern entrance, consisting of a support system with reinforced earth. Finally, the access road to Butzenbüel will be renewed and resurfaced.
A central element of this project is the sky platform, which is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also fulfils complex technical requirements. The underground technical room for the water feature requires precise planning and realisation to ensure both functionality and safety.
Integrating the new paths and steps into the existing landscape posed a further challenge. The various surface structures of the concrete surfaces and the chaussured natural paths must be harmoniously integrated into the surroundings in order to preserve the natural appearance of the park. The successful realisation of this project will establish Butzenbüel as an outstanding recreational area at Zurich Airport and offer both visitors and residents a new, attractive place of peace and relaxation.
