With our locations in three countries, we are successfully active for you worldwide.
Founded in 1923 in Oberriet, Jansen AG manufactures steel and stainless steel profile systems for windows, doors and façades and offers innovative plastic solutions for energy and water management. The company has around 580 employees worldwide and customers in over 60 countries. In 2023, Jansen took over the powder coating specialist Rino Weder AG and integrated the technology into its own main site. Production has expanded ever since. "We were able to build a new production facility in an empty hall – for the powder coating side of things and for a production line for windows and doors," says Severin Breu, Production Manager for Steel & Aluminium. A new chapter for Jansen – with special requirements for the floor: because wherever powder is in the air, the ground surface must be antistatic in order to meet the very high safety standards.
WALO built the floor in Hall A from the ground up. First of all, the in-house geomatics department mapped out the entire hall via laser scanning. "We recorded everything – first how things stood to start with, then the rough subgrade and the lean concrete," explains Alexandra Marti, a geomatics engineer at WALO. This was the starting point and provided the basis for the precision concrete work.
Foreman Daniel Battanta and his team from the cement department worked in stages, and got a lot done each time –up to 1,400 m² of concrete per day. "With a project this size, it is crucial that the concrete is always available on the construction site. No interruptions – because we have to be finished by midday, in order to work on the surface," says Battanta. In the end, there were 3,000 m³ of concrete, 285,000 kg of reinforcing steel and 500 m of steel profile to protect the edges.
After the concrete work, the next step was the coating – which was in two parts. HAYPANOL® D was used for the main area, a scattered covering that copes with high mechanical loads and creates an easy-care surface. There was an additional requirement at the new powder coating unit area. "This is where SYNTOLISS® AS comes in – an antistatic self-levelling covering," explains Ralf Bont, a foreman for Floor Coverings East. "It prevents dust explosions and is therefore essential for operations at a powder coating unit." In total, the WALO team used 90,000 kg of quartz sand and 38,000 kg of epoxy resin, and also worked on 1,400 metres of floor joints.
The biggest challenge was getting things done on time, as opposed to any technical considerations. "We knew, right from the start, when the completion date for the unit would be," says Severin Breu. Three months, no room for manoeuvre. WALO sent more manpower in critical phases and worked on some stages in parallel. "I really liked the fact that we never described things as problems when discussing matters, but always looked for solutions instead," points out Breu. The handover took place on schedule.
Ralf Bont has his own views on the project: "For me, as someone from the Rhine Valley – and a native of Oberriet – it was something special to work with such a strong partner as Jansen."
